Background of the Study

Podcasts are an increasingly popular medium for education and professional development. They offer flexibility and accessibility, enabling learners to engage with educational content at their own pace and convenience. In nursing education, podcasts can be used to supplement traditional learning methods, provide clinical insights, and enhance students' understanding of complex topics (Oluwaseun & Adebayo, 2023).

At Gombe State College of Health Sciences, the use of podcasts as an alternative learning tool is still in its early stages, but there is growing interest in their potential to support nursing education. Podcasts allow students to listen to expert discussions, review clinical scenarios, and access evidence-based resources that can enhance their knowledge and critical thinking skills. However, the effectiveness of podcasts in promoting nursing students' learning outcomes is not well-established. This study aims to explore the use of podcasts as an alternative tool for nursing education and assess their impact on students' academic performance and engagement.

Statement of the Problem

Although podcasts have gained popularity as an educational tool, their impact on nursing students’ learning in Gombe State College of Health Sciences has not been sufficiently investigated. The integration of podcasts into nursing education is still experimental, and the potential benefits and challenges are unclear. There is a need to examine how podcasts influence nursing students' academic performance, engagement with course content, and overall learning experience.

Objectives of the Study

1. To examine the effectiveness of podcasts as an alternative learning tool in nursing education at Gombe State College of Health Sciences.

2. To assess the impact of podcasts on nursing students' academic performance and engagement.

3. To identify the challenges and limitations of using podcasts as a learning tool in nursing education.

Research Questions

1. How effective are podcasts as an alternative learning tool in nursing education at Gombe State College of Health Sciences?

2. What impact do podcasts have on nursing students' academic performance and engagement?

3. What challenges do nursing students face when using podcasts as a learning tool?

Research Hypotheses

1. Podcasts are an effective alternative learning tool in nursing education.

2. Nursing students who use podcasts as a learning tool demonstrate better academic performance and engagement.

3. Nursing students face challenges when using podcasts as a learning tool, which limits their effectiveness.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on nursing students at Gombe State College of Health Sciences and assess the effectiveness of podcasts as an alternative learning tool. It will not consider other forms of media or educational tools. Findings may not be applicable to other nursing programs or institutions.
